Modi Ji ke raj mei kya pathe likhe, kya unpath?

Modi Ji ke raj mei kya pathe likhe, kya unpath?

What makes an educated person distinct from an uneducated?

School certificates and academic degrees?

Yes, partially so.

Then who is uneducated?

The one who can’t read and write?

Yes, partially so.

Answering this question in limited words is a bit difficult task in that sense.

However, the fact is that while a degree holder doesn’t necessarily embody in spirit what education is, an unlettered person needn’t be assumed to be lacking in it fully too.

That is, the mere ability to read and write comes from training and is connected to the process of cognition only partially.

The incident here goes on to explain this further.

As part of her duty, my wife went to a village for a/an il/literacy survey. This was in one of those backward villages of Muzaffar Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh.

As she reached the front yard of a seemingly well-to-do traditional Hindu house and finding no one in there called out to see if someone is inside.

An old man quickly emerged to know what the stranger lady was looking for.

Since she had to cover many more houses before the close of the day she immediately got to the point and asked that old person: “Ap ke ghar mei kitte unpath log hai?”

The reply was unexpected and within no time.

Ma’m koi fark hai pathe likhe aur unpath ke beech mei, Modi Ji ke ane ke bad? Likhlo sab unpath hi hai.”

She felt trounced for a moment but quickly realised that the old man didn’t mean any offence to her personally. Smilingly he then shared the kind of detail she needed to fill in the form. His family was a fairly educated one as well.

In all probability, he wanted to convey that the kind of formal education we receive doesn’t guarantee to instil critical thinking in us.

With good academic credentials named after them, millions of bhakts prove his point tirelessly – day in and day out. 😐
